The government has sanctioned a plan to buy 15,000 tons of sugarcane-derived white sugar from the Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) via the Direct Procurement Method (DPM) at a cost of BDT 115.58 per kilogram.
The authorization was granted in a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase, conducted online on Tuesday (October 14) at the conference room of the Cabinet Division in the Secretariat. Economic Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed presided over the meeting.
The overall expense for this acquisition has been projected at BDT 1.73 billion (173 crore 37 lakh).
As per meeting sources, the Ministry of Commerce’s proposal to buy sugar locally from BSFIC was sanctioned using the direct purchase method.
The procurement from BSFIC will cost BDT 1.73 billion, with each kilogram of sugar priced at BDT 115.58.
In the same meeting, based on a proposal from the Ministry of Food, the government also approved the first and final variation proposal for the construction work of the newly built Narayanganj rice silo under Package W-23 of the “Modern Food Storage Facilities (4th Revised)” project, which is being implemented by the Directorate General of Food with financial support from the World Bank.
The original contract value of the project was BDT 465.35 million (46 crore 53 lakh 35 thousand 538). After a reduction of BDT 40.23 million (4 crore 23 thousand 680) through the variation, the revised contract value now stands at BDT 425.31 million (42 crore 53 lakh 11 thousand 930).
