Government to honor recruiting agencies for ethical recruitment

BM Desk:

The Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment in Bangladesh has announced plans to honor recruiting agencies that engage in ethical recruitment practices.

The announcement was made by Senior Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Ahmed Munirus Salehin, on Sunday at a debate competition organized by the Debate for Democracy to commemorate International Migrants Day and National Migrants Day.

“We will continue to support recruiting agencies so that they can send workers ethically,” Salehin said. “We will soon be awarding the CIP (Commercially Important Person) honor to recruiting agencies.”

Salehin also said that it is important to classify recruiting agencies according to their standards. This will make it easier to reward qualified agencies.

“By stopping visa trading and sending skilled workers, we can ensure safe migration by controlling migration costs,” he said. “In this case, recruiting agencies, as well as other government and non-government organizations, must play a responsible role.”

He also said that some of the workers who went to Romania and Poland legally have left their jobs and moved to other countries. “This is very unfortunate,” he said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working to establish embassies of several countries in Bangladesh considering the potential labor market, he added.

The government is also working on a policy plan to involve expatriate Bangladeshis in the country’s development, he said.

Debaters of Government Bangla College defeated the debaters of Prime Asia University in the debate competition titled ‘Safe immigration cannot be ensured by law alone’. Debater Priya Dev of Prime Asia University bagged the honor of being the best speaker in the competition.
