GAPEXPO kicks off in Dhaka, showcasing innovation in garment accessories and packaging

BGMEA president urges focus on value addition in RMG

BM Report:

The future of Bangladesh’s garment industry lies in prioritizing value addition, according to BGMEA President Faruque Hassan. On Thursday, speaking at the opening ceremony of GAPEXPO 2024, at ICCB, he emphasized the crucial role of the accessories and packaging industry in boosting global competitiveness.

Hassan highlighted that accessories and packaging are not just add-ons, but key players in enhancing the perceived value and appeal of garments. Investing in research and development to create innovative, sustainable, and aesthetically pleasing accessories can significantly contribute to the final product’s worth.

He envisions Bangladesh’s garment sector moving beyond manufacturing and positioning itself as a hub for creative and value-added design. The accessories and packaging industry has the potential to carve out its own niche by producing high-quality materials with a focus on sustainability.

The 13th edition of GAPEXPO, organized by the Bangladesh Garments Accessories & Packaging Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BGAPMEA), serves as a platform to showcase the latest advancements and innovations in the accessories and packaging sector. With a focus on technology and sustainability, the event brings together industry stakeholders to explore opportunities for growth and collaboration.

Other notable speakers at the ceremony included A. H. M. Ahsan, Vice Chairman of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), and Mohammad Hatem, Executive President of BKMEA. They all echoed the importance of embracing value addition in the garment industry to secure Bangladesh’s position as a leading global apparel manufacturer.

GAPEXPO 2024 runs until January 13th, providing a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and exploring the immense potential of the accessories and packaging industry in propelling Bangladesh’s garment sector to new heights.
