Dhaka University inter-dept. basketball tournament begins

The Dhaka University Interdepartmental Basketball Tournament began on Sunday, at the university’s gymnasium. The university’s vice-chancellor, A.S.M. Maksud Kamal, was present as the chief guest and inaugurated the tournament.

The opening ceremony was presided over by the president of the Dhaka University Basketball Committee, Billal Hossain. Asim Sarkar, advisor of the Physical Education Center, and Shahjahan Ali, acting director, also spoke at the ceremony. Nizamul Haque Bhuiya, president of the Dhaka University Teachers Association, along with teachers, students, and players from various departments were present.

Vice-Chancellor A.S.M. Maksud Kamal said that sports are essential for students to develop leadership qualities, maintain a healthy mind and body, in addition to their studies. Students who regularly play sports also do well in studies. He mentioned that Dhaka University will further enhance sports and co-curricular activities to build students as skilled human resources, alongside academic and research activities. He called upon the students to participate in all games with transparency and honesty, maintaining friendly relations, and developing their intellect and mental abilities.

It is to be noted that the International Business Department and the Finance Department participated in the inaugural match.

The tournament will run for two weeks, with a total of 16 teams participating. The top four teams will advance to the semi-finals. The final match will be held on December 10, 2023.

The tournament is expected to be a competitive one, with all the teams vying for the championship. The students are excited to participate in the tournament and showcase their skills.
