B Mirror Report: The Chattogram Custom House has launched the process to auction 378 containers of unclaimed and auctionable goods through an electronic auction (e-auction) system in March 2026, aiming to reduce container congestion at Chattogram Port.
According to an NBR press release, the initiative seeks to ease backlog, enhance operational efficiency, safeguard lives and property, and prevent wastage of state resources at the country’s busiest seaport.
Under E-Auction-2/2026, 180 containers will be sold in 49 lots, featuring chemicals, machinery, plastic scrap, art paper, fabrics, household items, and automobile parts. E-Auction-3/2026 will include 198 containers in 74 lots, including capital machinery, passenger elevators, metal scrap, and kraft liner paper. No reserved prices have been set for the consignments.
The auctions will be fully digital, with physical inspections allowed throughout March. Bidders must register online, submit security deposits via pay orders, and comply with Import Policy Order 2021–2024. Tender boxes will open at 2:00 pm on March 31 for E-Auction-2/2026 and April 8 for E-Auction-3/2026.
Officials said such e-auction initiatives will continue to keep Chattogram Port free from container congestion.
