Prof Shibli Rubaiyat-ul-Islam, chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), said the amount of cash transactions of investors in brokerage houses would be increased from Tk 5 lakh to Tk 10 lakh soon.
He made the remarks at a courtesy meeting with members of the DSE Brokers Association of Bangladesh (DBA) here on Monday (August 31st). After the meeting, DBA President Sharif Anwar Hossain informed about the issues discussed.
Earlier, a letter signed by DBA President Sharif Anwar Hossain on August 19 requested the BSEC to increase the amount of cash transactions of investors to Rs 10 lakh.
He said the brokers had a very good discussion with the commission today. Never before have there been such cordial discussions with brokers. At the meeting, the BSEC chairman sought the cooperation of all to maintain discipline in the stock market.
He said that during the talks, the BSEC chairman said that he would solve the minor problems of the brokers. He said that in a day or two, he would increase the amount of cash transactions of investors to Tk 10 lakh.
The DBA president said the BSEC chairman called on those who can afford it, but are not getting good investment opportunities, to invest in the stock market.
The meeting was chaired by DBA President Sharif Anwar Hossain and BSEC Commissioner Khandaker Kamaluzzaman, Dr. Sheikh Samsuddin Ahmed, Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman and Md. Abdul Halim participated. Besides, representatives of about 160 brokerage houses participated.
