Kishoreganj Correspondent: Kishoreganj-2 (covering Katiadi and Pakundia) is emerging as a focal point of political activity as the 13th National Parliamentary Election approaches. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has intensified its grassroots preparations in the constituency, with several potential candidates drawing attention. Among them, Muhammad Abul Hossain Mushahid, former advisor to the district BNP, has become a prominent figure in local discussions.
Known for his organizational skills and strong rapport with grassroots activists, Mushahid has long been active in BNP politics. His consistent presence among party workers has earned him a reputation as a trusted leader. In recent months, despite residing in New York due to political pressure, he has maintained regular virtual communication with supporters and party members. His followers claim he will return to Bangladesh soon to actively participate in the election campaign.
Locals describe Mushahid not only as a political leader but also as a contributor to social welfare, education, and agricultural development. His initiatives in rural infrastructure and economic upliftment have sparked new hopes among voters. Many young constituents view him as a practical and educated leader who backs his words with action. “He doesn’t just talk—he delivers,” said one youth supporter.
Speaking to the press, Mushahid stated, “I am inspired by the love of the people and the ideals of my party. I want to be the voice of the grassroots against inequality, corruption, and injustice disguised as development.” He further emphasized that if BNP comes to power, education, agriculture, industry, and employment will be prioritized in the region.
Other BNP hopefuls for the Kishoreganj-2 seat include district vice presidents Advocate Md. Jalal Uddin, Ashfaq Ahmed Jun, and Ruhul Amin Akil; Sweden-based joint general secretary Shahiduzzaman Kakon; former Pakundia Upazila Jubo Dal president Ahmad Faruq Khokon; former central Jubo Dal employment secretary Khandakar Al Ashraf Mamun; and Katiadi Upazila BNP president and former mayor Tofazzal Hossain Khan Dilip. Additionally, Upazila BNP member Rezaul Karim Bojlu has signaled his candidacy through posters and public outreach.
Beyond BNP, candidates from other parties are also preparing to contest. Jamaat-e-Islami’s Maulana Shafiqul Islam Morol, Khelafat Majlish’s Maulana Saeed Ahmad, Gano Adhikar Parishad’s vice president Shafiqul Islam, and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh’s Maulana Rashid Ahmad Jahangir Hossaini have all shown interest. In the 2018 election, the seat was held by Major (Retd.) Akhtaruzzaman Ranjan, a controversial figure who has since been expelled from BNP.
A senior BNP leader commented, “Mushahid has a clean image and growing popularity. Voters are eager for change, and their main demands are education, employment, and rural development. They believe he can lead that transformation with integrity and practical vision.”
As the election draws nearer, Kishoreganj-2 is shaping up to be a battleground of fresh political competition, with voters closely watching the evolving landscape.
