The number of Corona patient in Bangladesh are much higher than that of the government agencies claimed, legendary physician and a pioneer in Bangladesh health sector Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury has told Business Mirror this afternoon at his Gonoshasthaya Kendra office.

“The numbers that are claimed by government agencies are like an astrologer prediction. You only tested a few thousands and you are giving whimsical result,” Dr. Zafrullah said.

 World Health Organization (WHO) is claiming that if the Corona virus pandemic deteriorate further the causality would reach between 0.5 million and 2 million.

 “Even if I count cautious, I am afraid more than 50 thousand Bangladeshi may die from the pandemic,” he added.

 Dr. Zafrullah suggested immediate uses of remaining 40,000 corona test kits and speedy supply more kits to know the actual situation.

  He requested the government to immediately introduce Fever Center at almost all the government hospitals.

 “The government can recall all the retired capable doctors for engage them emergency Corona duty. It also should provide a 7-days orientation training to the internee doctors to use them for Corona duty,” Dr. Zafrullah added.

 About privately run hospitals, he expressed his anger saying that the private hospitals earned a huge amount of money in the name of medical service and they now fled from the national health disaster scene.

 “The government should announce a circular so that all the private hospital must continue service during this pandemic,” he added.

 About the ventilator systems available at different government hospitals Dr. Zafrullah said half of the existing hospitals are inoperative.

 He claims that the kit which he promised to manufacture locally would be available within next one week.

 “We failed to make it ready within stipulated timeframe due to an electrical and technical glitch. The products may ready by next week,” he assured.

 About claims of some local company that they would manufacture Corona medicine, he said none of such claims are proven. About the application of Malaria medicine to Corona patient he said it is also baseless claim.

 Dr. Zafrullah called the Honourable Prime Minister to form an all party medical team to fight against Corona together.
