Bangladesh Labor Law Amendment Bill to be amended and reintroduced

BM Desk:

Law Minister Anisul Haque has announced that the Bangladesh Labor Law (Amendment) Bill will be amended and reintroduced in the first session of the new parliament. The minister made the announcement at a press conference in his office on Wednesday.

He said that there were some errors in the bill that was passed by the previous parliament. These errors were identified by the Ministry of Labor and brought to the attention of the President. The President then sent the bill back without legally signing it.

Haque said that the bill will be amended to ensure that it protects the rights of workers. He also said that there will be no need to approve the amendment bill in the cabinet.

The Labor Law Amendment Bill was passed by the previous parliament in November. The bill was intended to make it easier for workers to form unions and to increase the minimum wage. However, the bill was criticized by some labor unions who said that it did not go far enough to protect workers’ rights.

The reintroduction of the bill is a positive step towards strengthening the rights of workers in Bangladesh. However, it is important to ensure that the amended bill is comprehensive and addresses all of the concerns raised by labor unions.
