In a vibrant ceremony, the Bangladesh Folk Craft Fair and Folk Festival kicked off in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, promising a month-long celebration of the rich heritage of Bengal.
Abdullah Al Qaiser, Member of Parliament for Narayanganj-3 (Sonargaon), graced the opening ceremony as the chief guest on Tuesday.
The 33rd folk fair, held at the Bangladesh Folk and Crafts Foundation, was presided over by Culture Affairs Secretary Khalil Ahmed.
Organized annually by the Bangladesh Folk and Handicrafts Foundation, the month-long event aims to revive the cultural essence of Bengal, showcasing diverse products in a lively atmosphere.
The opening ceremony witnessed the presence of Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Culture Imrul Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner Mahmudul Haque, Police Superintendent Golam Mostafa Rasel, Dhaka Region Tourist Police Superintendent Naimul Haque, Sonargaon Upazila Parishad Chairman Advocate Samsul Islam Bhuiyan, Upazila Executive Officer Dipan Debnath, and Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mohammad Ibrahim, among others.
Noteworthy attractions of the folk craft fair include a handicraft exhibition, folk exhibition, puppet dance, bioscope, village dance, and rural games. Cultural programs on the folk stage and demonstrations of extinct rural games by school students will be held daily, along with an exhibition of handicrafts by skilled artisans.
