BM Report:
A Dhaka court on Monday issued an arrest warrant against Mohammad Rassel, the Managing Director of popular e-commerce platform Evaly, and his wife, Shamima Nasrin, who serves as the company’s Chairman. The decision came in light of a cheque dishonor case where the couple allegedly failed to deliver a motorcycle within the agreed 45-day timeframe, despite the customer making full payment on March 13, 2021.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate M. Ali Haider took this action after Rassel and Nasrin failed to appear before the court, despite being summoned for the proceedings.
The case unfolded when a customer, dissatisfied with Evaly’s failure to fulfill the promised delivery, issued a notice to the company. In response, a cheque was handed over to the buyer on September 13 of the same year. However, the cheque was dishonored, leading the aggrieved party to send multiple legal notices to the company authorities.
With no response from Evaly, the frustrated buyer filed a case against Mohammad Rassel and Shamima Nasrin on October 22. The subsequent non-appearance of the accused before the court prompted the issuance of the arrest warrant.
The case has raised concerns among Evaly users and the broader e-commerce community, highlighting the importance of transparent and accountable business practices. Authorities are expected to take further action to ensure a fair resolution to the case and uphold consumer rights in the e-commerce sector.
