All the VAT eligible establishments coming under the registration

The VAT able companies of the country, especially those whose annual turnover is VAT able – such as super shops, city corporations with shopping malls, district-upzilla city markets, manufacturing companies are being brought under VAT.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has announced a registration month to bring these institutions under registration. A letter was sent to all VAT commissionerates on Thursday from the NBR instructing them to do so.

It is learned that there are many VAT establishments across the country, which are yet to be registered. Especially hotels, supershops and shopping malls. Many institutions are strategically outside the scope of registration. As a result, the government is not receiving VAT properly. The NBR has taken the initiative to bring these institutions that are outside the scope of registration under VAT. The organization’s letter in this regard states that February will be the registration month for VAT commissioners and March will be the VAT registration month for NBR.

The NBR’s instructions state that although the VAT system was introduced in the country in 1991, the scope of VAT has not expanded to the expected level. Sections 4 and 10 of the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012, require VAT-eligible individuals or institutions to register and enroll.

At the same time, according to the order issued by NBR on July 17, 2019, regardless of the annual turnover of certain products and services, and all supershops, shopping malls, city corporations and district cities, all manufacturing establishments in the country are required to receive VAT registration. Accordingly, three instructions have been given to field level officials in the letter to arrange for registration.
