East West University (EWU) hosted a day-long “Job Fair and Career Search” program today, bringing together over 3,000 graduates and representatives from 87 renowned national and international companies. The event, held on the university’s Aftabnagar campus, fostered connections between academia and industry, offering graduates valuable opportunities to explore diverse career paths.
The inaugural ceremony welcomed distinguished guests including Syed Manzur Elahi, Chairperson of EWU’s Board of Trustees and Chairman of Apex Group; Prof. Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chief Advisor of EWU and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank; Mr. Stephen F. Ibelli, Public Affairs Counselor of the US Embassy in Bangladesh; Prof. Shams Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of EWU; and Prof. Dr. Farhana Ferdousi, Chairperson of EWU’s Department of Business Administration.
Speakers lauded the initiative’s potential to bridge the gap between industry needs and skilled graduates. They emphasized the event’s significance in providing a platform for students to connect with diverse companies, gain insights into industry expectations, and showcase their talents.
Highlighting the growing international appeal of Bangladeshi graduates, Mr. Ibelli shared that the enrollment rate of Bangladeshi students in the United States has tripled in the past decade. He encouraged attendees to explore opportunities at the US Embassy and other US-affiliated institutions.
The fair featured booths representing a wide range of sectors, including IT, banking, telecommunications, FMCGs, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing. Graduates actively engaged with company representatives, participated in informational sessions, and submitted resumes for open positions.
EWU’s Career Counseling Center (CCC) played a crucial role in organizing the event, providing pre-fair resume writing workshops and mock interview sessions to prepare students for successful interactions with potential employers.
The successful job fair underscores EWU’s commitment to career development and employability of its graduates. By bridging the gap between industry and academia, such initiatives empower students to navigate the job market effectively and contribute meaningfully to Bangladesh’s economic growth.
