Social Insurance (SI) provides financial support and protection to people or groups who are exposed to social hazards such as pregnancy, old age, unemployment, disability, or disease
BM Report:
According to the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), which was speaking at an event titled “Inception of Social Insurance Forum in Bangladesh on Thursday,” as Bangladesh moves away from its status as a least developed country (LDC), it is time to create a social insurance (SI) system in addition to the traditional safety net concept.
The think tank added that the nation needed to move forward quickly, stressing that excellent governance and openness are crucial to boosting trust in this area, particularly whether developed or developing nations progress in the social insurance system.
A government-backed program called Social Insurance (SI) provides financial support and protection to people or groups who are exposed to social hazards such as pregnancy, old age, unemployment, disability, or disease.
To facilitate framework development, the CPD research director suggested that a platform should be provided for collaborative discussions and idea exchange to enhance the creation of robust frameworks.
The National Social Insurance Scheme (NSIS) has not yet had a suitable design created, though.
To help with the implementation of social insurance programs in Bangladesh, a forum has been established.
The CPD went on to say that while the ministries continue to have frequent meetings and workshops on the National Social Security Strategy (NSSS), there is still a noticeable lack of public conversations that are expressly centered on the NSIS.
In addition, it appears that there has been little or no noticeable progress in implementing NSIS.
Although a pension plan has been established, there isn’t much participation at the moment.
The application of NSIS has a number of flaws, including conceptual, institutional, planning, legal, and operational shortcomings.
