Over 4 thousand crore VAT collected from CTG

With 15.39% growth year-on-year, Value Added Tax worth taka 4 thousand and 627 crore has been collected in Chittagong in July-October of the current 2023-24 financial year, officials said at a ceremony organized to honor regional highest VAT payers.

The Consolidated Tea & Lands Company of Chittagong received best VAT payer award in production sector, Escorp Apparels Limited in business sector, Sena Hotel Developments Limited, Simon Beach Resorts of Cox’s Bazar and Venus Resort & Coffee House of Bandarban, received awards in service sector.

The event, held at the city’s Radisson Blu Hotel and organized by the Customs Excise and VAT Commissionerate of Chittagong, was also told that currently, the number of Electronic Fiscal Devices in Chittagong is 2 thousand 127.

NBR says, in the first four months of the current fiscal year, nearly 39 percent of total tax revenue of the country came from the VAT sub-sector during the July-October period. VAT collection stood at Tk 40 thousand 49 crore which is Tk 5 thousand 852 crore higher than the same period of last financial year.

In the four months of the financial year, the total revenue collected was 1 lakh 3 thousand 976 crores, 14.36 percent higher than that of the same period of last financial year.
