Bangladesh’s stock market extended its recovery for a second consecutive session on Wednesday, with most listed securities gaining and trading activity increasing at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
The DSE’s benchmark DSEX index rose 21 points to 5,494, continuing the strong rebound that began on Tuesday when the index gained 93 points after falling to a three-and-a-half-month low on Monday.
Of the 395 securities traded on the DSE on Wednesday, 180 advanced, 153 declined and 62 remained unchanged.
The DSE-30 index gained five points to 2,092, while the DSES index, which tracks Shariah-compliant stocks, rose five points to 1,099.
Trading value also increased to Tk 556.20 crore from Tk 504.86 crore in the previous session, marking a rise of Tk 51.34 crore.
Sharp Industries led the turnover chart with shares worth Tk 17.72 crore changing hands. Eastern Bank followed with Tk 16.92 crore, while Envoy Textiles ranked third with Tk 16.70 crore.
Other companies among the top 10 by turnover were Saiham Textile, Malek Spinning, Paramount Textile, Saiham Cotton, IPDC Finance, Summit Alliance Port and Bangladesh National Insurance.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also recorded a positive session. Of the 179 securities traded, 94 advanced, 58 declined and 27 remained unchanged.
The CSE’s broad CASPI index gained 74 points, while turnover increased to Tk 20.82 crore from Tk 19.20 crore in the previous session.
