BSEC advances special audit of three Beximco firms

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has reconstituted an evaluation committee to assess proposals for appointing consulting firms to conduct special audits of three listed Beximco Group companies.

The special audits will examine the financial statements of Beximco Limited, Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd., and Shinepukur Ceramics Ltd. for the five fiscal years from 2020 to June 30, 2024. The review aims to determine whether the companies’ published financial reports contain any irregularities, misstatements, or undisclosed information.

According to a revised BSEC order issued recently, the new committee has been formed to ensure a more effective, transparent, and timely evaluation of proposals submitted by consulting firms seeking the audit assignment.

BSEC Executive Director and spokesperson Md. Abul Kalam said the committee was restructured to strengthen the proposal evaluation process. He added that the consulting firms would be selected through the Quality and Cost-Based Selection (QCBS) method in accordance with applicable regulations and international standards.

Under the revised order, Md. Abul Kalam will serve as chairman of the committee. Md. Golam Sarowar Sagar, Administrative Officer of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC), has been appointed as a member, while Rana Das, Assistant Director of BSEC, will act as member secretary.

BSEC had initially formed an evaluation committee in February 2025 to select auditors for the special reviews. At that time, several consulting firms expressed interest. Three firms were invited to submit proposals for Beximco Limited, 10 firms for Beximco Pharmaceuticals, and one firm for Shinepukur Ceramics.

The special audits are part of the regulator’s efforts to strengthen corporate governance, improve financial reporting standards, and enhance investor confidence in Bangladesh’s capital market.
