The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed marginally higher on Monday as late-session buying offset earlier losses following a volatile day of trading.
The benchmark DSEX index rose 2.8 points to settle at 5,723, compared with 5,720 in the previous session.
The market remained under pressure for much of the day due to selling in several large-cap stocks. However, renewed buying interest in the final hour helped the benchmark recover and end in positive territory.
Trading activity eased slightly, with turnover declining 1.4 percent to Tk 13.5 billion from Tk 13.7 billion in the previous session.
The banking sector led trading, contributing 12.8 percent of total turnover, followed by textiles at 12.6 percent and general insurance at 12.4 percent.
Among the sectoral indices, jute posted the highest gain, rising 2.1 percent. Information technology advanced 1.2 percent, while general insurance added 1.1 percent. On the losing side, ceramics fell 1.2 percent, while the services and miscellaneous sectors declined 0.8 percent and 0.5 percent, respectively.
Market breadth remained positive, with 169 stocks advancing, 156 declining and one remaining unchanged among the 397 securities traded.
At the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), trading ended mixed. The CSCX index gained 0.8 point, while the CASPI index slipped 2.3 points.
