Tangail, Correspondent: A discussion meeting and prayer gathering were held in Tangail on Friday to commemorate the 45th death anniversary of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam.
The event took place at Sonar Bangla Community Centre in Tangail town and was attended by leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its affiliated organisations.
State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Alhaj Sultan Salauddin Tuku, MP, attended the programme as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, he said the BNP had begun implementing the commitments it made to the people and stressed the importance of working together under the guidance of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to advance the country.
He also said the BNP fulfills its promises and highlighted the need to introduce younger generations to the ideals and contributions of Ziaur Rahman. According to him, following Ziaur Rahman’s vision remains important for strengthening democracy and improving people’s lives.
The meeting was presided over by Tangail District BNP President Hasanuzzamil Shahin and moderated by former district BNP Member Secretary Mahmudul Haque Sanu.
Among others, former district BNP Vice-President Ziaul Haque Shahin, Tangail Sadar Upazila BNP President Azgar Ali, District Mohila Dal President Nilufa Yasmin Khan, and Tangail Chhatra Dal Convener Durjoy Hor Shuvo spoke at the event.
A special prayer and munajat were held at the end of the programme, seeking eternal peace for the late president.
As part of the observance, food was also distributed among underprivileged people at the Central Shaheed Minar in the afternoon.
BNP and its associate and affiliated bodies are observing the 45th anniversary of Ziaur Rahman’s death nationwide through various programmes.
