The authorities of Acme Pesticides, a company listed on the stock market, are not paying workers their rightful dues. This information was revealed by the auditor in the company’s financial audit.
According to sources from the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the auditor reported that even at the end of the 2024–25 fiscal year, an amount of BDT 10.7 million (1 crore 7 lakh) from the 2022–23 fiscal year remains in the Workers’ Profit Participation Fund (WPPF) of Acme Pesticides.
However, under Section 232 of the Labour Act, 2006, the fund must be distributed within nine months of the end of the fiscal year. Accordingly, the 2022–23 fund was required to be distributed by March 31, 2024. But the authorities of Acme Pesticides have failed to distribute the fund among employees, depriving them of their rightful benefits.
It is worth noting that Acme Pesticides, which was listed on the stock market in 2021, has a paid-up capital of BDT 1.35 billion (135 crore). Of this, 68.20% is owned by general investors (excluding sponsors/directors). As of Tuesday (March 31), the company’s share price stood at BDT 21.20.
