B Mirror Report: Bangladesh’s readymade garment (RMG) sector has marked another milestone in sustainable manufacturing, as five additional factories have secured Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, bringing the country’s total number of certified green factories to 280.

The latest achievement further reinforces Bangladesh’s position as a global frontrunner in environmentally friendly garment production. Of the total LEED-certified factories, 118 have obtained Platinum ratings while 143 have achieved Gold status, highlighting the sector’s growing focus on sustainability.

Industry data also shows that Bangladesh now hosts 52 factories among the world’s top 100 highest-rated LEED-certified industrial units, underlining its strong commitment to green practices and eco-conscious development.

The newly recognized factories include Epic Garments Manufacturing Co. Ltd. Unit-7 in Narayanganj, Surma Garments Ltd. in Dhaka, NAFA Apparels Ltd Unit-02 in Dhamrai, Winter Dress Limited in Savar, and Meher Garments Limited in Chattogram.

Among them, Epic Garments Manufacturing Co. Ltd. Unit-7 earned Gold certification under the LEED BD+C: New Construction v4 category with 67 points, while Surma Garments Ltd. secured Gold under LEED O+M: Existing Buildings v4 with 71 points. With a strong emphasis on reducing carbon emissions, conserving water, and enhancing workplace standards, Bangladesh continues to lead the global RMG industry in green factory development while strengthening its competitiveness in international markets.
