B Mirror Report: Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid today announced that organic farming will be introduced in the country’s char areas to tap into the full potential of the agricultural sector.
He made the remarks while exchanging views with officials and heads of different departments at a meeting held in the ministry’s conference room.
Rashid, who also serves as the minister for food, fisheries and livestock, said that extensive char lands across the country have fertile soil and are highly suitable for cultivating export-oriented organic crops. He underscored the importance of promoting industrial-scale agricultural production in these areas.
Highlighting the wider economic importance of agriculture, he said that a strong farming sector would help build a robust national economy. He added that steps will be taken to restructure and modernize the agriculture sector. The planned initiatives include reducing the use of chemical fertilizers, enhancing soil quality, excavating irrigation canals, and other necessary measures.
State Minister for Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku also addressed the meeting. He emphasized ensuring that genuine farmers receive incentives, agricultural loans, and other essential support.
The state minister further said that the government has started working on issuing Farmer’s Cards to facilitate direct assistance to farmers.
Agriculture Secretary Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian chaired the programme.
