Nurul Amin Khan, Sylhet Divisional Bureau Chief: Acting President of Sylhet Metropolitan BNP, Rezaul Hasan Koyes Lodi, has said that expatriates who are devoted patriots of nationalist politics are spread across countries around the world. Even while living abroad, they have played courageous roles during every crisis of the country, he said, adding that remittance fighters are the ones keeping the nation afloat.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at a civic reception organised by the Nationalist Citizens’ Reception Council, Sylhet, in honour of Alhaj Fakhrul Islam Loyes—founding convener of Bangladesh Nationalist Youth Dal (Jago Jubo Dal), Greater Sylhet District; former chief adviser of Michigan BNP, USA; founding president of Sylhet Social Welfare Association; and president of the Michigan chapter of the Bangladesh–America Human Rights Organisation. Loyes is a noted politician and social worker.
The civic reception was held on Sunday (January 18) afternoon at the Shaheed Soleman Hall of the Central Muslim Literary Society at Dargah Gate in the city.
The programme was presided over by wounded freedom fighter MA Malek Khan, acting president of the Central Executive Committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Freedom Fighters Party and founding convener of Bangladesh Nationalist Chhatra Dal (Jago Chhatra Dal), Greater Sylhet District. The welcome address was delivered by senior journalist Aklis Ahmed Chowdhury, member secretary of the Reception Council.
Dr Shamimur Rahman, adviser to the Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB), spoke as the principal speaker. Among others present as special guests were recitation artist and researcher-poet Saleh Ahmed Khasru; Advocate Chowdhury Ataur Rahman Azad, president of Sylhet Division Gonodabi Forum; philanthropist Alhaj Captain Hossain; Principal Mofizur Rahman Chowdhury of Jaintapur Toyeb Ali Degree College; former general secretary of KEMUSAS Dewan Mahmud Raja Chowdhury; senior journalist Abdul Kader Tapadar, Sylhet divisional bureau chief of Daily Naya Diganta; poet and organiser Dr MA Mostak; former deputy speaker of London Borough of Tower Hamlets Jenith Rahman; UK councillor Jahangir Haque from Surrey; former chairman of Jagannathpur Upazila Ataur Rahman; Principal Kazi Shamima Nasrin; poets Ekhlasur Rahman and Kamal Ahmed; Aminul Islam Bokul; Asad Mia; noted social worker Abdul Qadir Dudu; Kamrul Hasan; Maruf Ahmed, among others.
The programme was jointly conducted by Rotarian Jubayer Ahmed and poet Abdus Samad. The event began with recitation from the Holy Qur’an by Qari Rezwan Hossain, followed by the national anthem and nasheed performed by Abdullah Fahim and Kawsar Hossain.
