Kushtia, District Correspondent: In the biennial election of the Kushtia Boro Bazar Traders’ Association, Fouad Reza Fahim was elected president and Md. Ariful Islam Arif was elected general secretary with overwhelming support. Voting was held uninterrupted from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with 641 of the 686 registered members casting their votes.
For the president’s post, Fouad Reza Fahim, running under the Botgachh (Tree) symbol, won 424 votes, defeating Md. Masud Rana (Chhata/Umbrella) and Md. Al Amin Rana (Kanai/Goad Cart), who received 102 and 91 votes respectively. Md. Ariful Islam Arif, running under the Truck symbol, secured 340 votes for the general secretary position, surpassing S. M. Sirajul Islam (Toton/Motorcycle) and Md. Mostafa (Jahaj/Ship).
Other key positions were also filled, including Md. Idris Ali (Anaras/Pineapple) as vice president, Md. Saidul Islam Bishwas (Range) as joint general secretary, Md. Abhi Arafat (Tia Pakhi/Bird) as organizational secretary, and Md. Zillur Rahman (Horin/Deer) as treasurer. Nine executive members were elected with votes ranging from 363 to 505. A total of 29 candidates contested 15 positions. Voters and officials expressed satisfaction over the peaceful conduct of the election, noting it reflected the active participation and confidence of the business community.
