Bangladesh’s top conglomerates, Meghna Group, City Group, and Delta Agro, have pledged to buy an extra $1 billion worth of soybeans the following year after importing over 700,000 metric tons of soybeans from the US in 2025. On Wednesday, the U.S. Embassy posted the details on Facebook.
The U.S. Embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires in Dhaka, Tracy Jacobson, formally received a significant consignment of soybeans farmed in the United States at Meghna Group, according to the post.
Jacobson said U.S. soybeans are both affordable and highly nutritious, contributing significantly to the growth of Bangladesh’s fisheries and poultry sectors.
The embassy noted that long-term purchase agreements with Bangladeshi industrial companies will further strengthen economic ties between the two countries. At the same time, U.S. soybeans will play an important role in ensuring a stable supply of raw materials for local industries.
Jacobson added that cooperation in the agricultural sector will not only boost bilateral trade but also have a positive impact on food security, industrial development, and broader economic progress.
