Khorshed Kaliakair Correspondent: Kawsar Ahmed, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Kaliakair, Gazipur, has earned a strong reputation as a compassionate and dedicated administrator. Since taking office, he has consistently stood beside the poor and vulnerable, setting a remarkable example of humanity in public service.
Before joining Kaliakair, he successfully served as an Executive Magistrate in various parts of the country. Since his appointment in February 2024, the administrative and social landscape of the upazila has seen notable positive changes. He has been working tirelessly in the field to maintain the momentum of development.
Known for his empathetic behavior and willingness to help every citizen visiting the UNO office, he has earned deep respect and affection from the local people.
One notable act of kindness was when he personally handed over a financial aid cheque of Tk 50,000 to the family of a boat accident victim — a gesture widely appreciated as a true reflection of his humanitarian values.
During Eid and Durga Puja, he played an active role in easing traffic congestion on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway by implementing administrative measures and ensuring traffic flow with the help of locals, so that festival-time travel remained uninterrupted.
He is also conducting regular monitoring of market prices to control inflation. In addition, he has been leading mobile court operations to curb illegal sand extraction, harassment of women (eve-teasing), drug abuse, use of illegal fishing nets, unregistered vehicles, and unauthorized brick kilns.
Local residents said, “Acts of such compassion are rare these days. Earlier, getting public services was quite difficult, but now we can access them easily and efficiently. This transparency and swiftness in the administration bring us relief. We hope he continues to serve the people for a long time.”
Speaking about his role, UNO Kawsar Ahmed said:
“Timely planning, implementation, and supervision of the government’s development activities is a major challenge today. We are trying our best to carry out these responsibilities with utmost dedication.”
He added, “We are working to deliver government services to people’s doorsteps in the quickest and most transparent way. Citizens are already experiencing the benefits. Alhamdulillah, people of Kaliakair are now receiving improved and more accessible public services, and that is evident from their feedback.”
He further stated that identifying and resolving the problems faced by the poor and underprivileged, as well as responding to various unexpected social incidents, are a key part of his responsibilities. These efforts are carried out in coordination with multiple departments and volunteers to ensure timely solutions.
Overall, these initiatives are building new trust and enthusiasm around local governance. He concluded by saying, “We seek everyone’s cooperation so that we can continue to implement our development and service programs effectively, ensuring that government services remain accessible to all.”
