For the months of August and September, Bangladesh Bank has made 886 crore taka available to help with the payment of wages and benefits to employees in the apparel industry. Following the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association’s (BGMEA) request, this money was given through Exim Bank and Social Islami Bank (SIBL).
This information was provided in a press release issued by BGMEA.
It has been reported that five struggling banks, which have recently been experiencing a significant liquidity crisis, were unable to disburse the export earnings to garment factories in a timely manner. Consequently, the affected factories were also unable to pay their workers, which severely disrupted the normal operations of the industry.
