Mansur Alam, Pabna Correspondent: An awareness campaign and discussion meeting was held by the Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA) on the harmful effects and environmental problems of single-use plastics. The promotional seminar was held at the auditorium of Imam Ghazali Girls School and College, Pabna at 11:30 on Wednesday. The event was chaired by the principal of the educational institution, Suraiya Sultana, and was attended by BELLA network member and editor of the daily Sinsa, SM Mahbub Alam, Riverine People Pabna district president and BELLA network member Dr. Mansur Alam, BRAC Pabna region team leader Md. Sohrab Hossain, Imam Ghazali Girls School and College assistant headmaster Md. Anisur Rahman, former assistant headmaster Ayub Hossain Khan, and others. The event was moderated by BELLA network member journalist Shafiq Al Kamal. Bela Rajshahi and Rangpur Divisional Coordinator Tanmoy Kumar Sanyal presented various important information and videos through a projector on the harmful effects and environmental problems of single-use plastic. Nusrat Jahan Taj 8th, Mushfirat Tasnim 9th, Humaira Tabassum 8th and Niyati Islam 7th grade addressed the students. Assistant teachers of Imam Ghazali Girls School and College Md. Abdul Mannan and Shahnaz Suhi provided overall support in the program. Single-use plastic bottles are creating very harmful effects on public health and biodiversity. Uncontrolled plastic waste is causing waterlogging in cities, blocking drainage systems, polluting waterways and posing an extreme threat to public health. If this terrible situation continues, the balance of the environment will be disrupted. The harmful effects of single-use plastic and various environmental issues are highlighted with the aim of raising awareness.
