The nation’s inflation rate has decreased.

The nation’s overall price inflation rate dropped to 0.49 percent in December of last year. Inflation on food prices has also decreased to 0.88 percent. Today, Monday, January 6, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) released an announcement.

The country’s overall inflation rate, or Consumer Price Index (CPI), decreased to 10.89 percent in December from 11.38 percent in November, according to the most recent data from the BBS.

The final month of the year saw a slight decrease in food inflation, which had been a worry for customers the entire year. Food inflation decreased to 0.88 percent to 12.92 percent in December. That amounted to 13.80 percent in November.

In November, the overall rate of non-food inflation was 9.39 percent; however, by December, it had dropped to 9.26 percent.

Furthermore, from 11.09 percent in December to 0.44 percent in rural areas overall, inflation declined. Of this, 12.63 percent was attributed to food inflation and 9.65 percent to non-food inflation.

In addition, there was a 0.53 percent drop in overall urban inflation to 10.84 percent. Of this, 13.56 percent was attributed to food inflation and 9.17 percent to non-food inflation.

Bangladesh has been experiencing high inflation for more than two years, despite the government’s various efforts to lower it. The annual average inflation rate rose to 10.22 percent in November, up from 10.05 percent in October, according to the central bank.
