Shawkat Ali Khan new MD of Sonali Bank.

Md. Shawkat Ali Khan joined Sonali Bank PLC as CEO & Managing Director on 30 October, 2024. He was appointed to this position through the letter dated 21 October of Financial Institutions Division, Ministry of Finance. Prior to joining Sonali Bank he served as Managing Director at Bangladesh Krishi Bank. Earlier he worked as Deputy Managing Director of Rupali Bank PLC.

Md. Shawkat Ali Khan started his career in Rupali Bank PLC as Senior Officer in 1998 selected by BRC. Having 26 years of diversified experience in banking he worked in an array of departments including Admin & HR, Industrial Credit, General Credit & SME, Agro, Rural Credit & Micro Credit, Foreign Trade Finance & International, Home Loan, Anti Money Laundering, Establishment & Welfare, ICT and Law Divisions. He also served as the bank’s CAMLCO, CFO and CRO.

He obtained BSc (Honors) and MSc degrees in Chemistry from Jahangirnagar University and pursued MBA degree in Banking from University of Dhaka.

He received an appreciation letter as recognition of his work for playing an important role in formulating the policy of Home Loan for the government employees of the Ministry of Finance.

During his career, he took part in different banking related training, seminars and symposium held at home and abroad. He travelled to various countries.

Md Shawkat Ali Khan was born in a noble Muslim family of Sakhipur upazila in Tangail district.
