In the recent financial year 2023-24, Bangladesh Bank earned a record of Tk 40 thousand crores. Out of these funds, excluding operating expenses, the net profit was 15 thousand 100 crores.
On Wednesday (August 28), the board of directors’ meeting at the central bank’s meeting room approved the financial statements of the last financial year. The governor presided over the council meeting. Ahsan H. Mansoor.
It was informed in the meeting that last financial year 2022-23, Bangladesh Bank earned 15 thousand crore taka. Net profit excluding operating expenses was Tk 10 thousand 748 crores in this financial year.
It is known from the meeting sources that during the time of former governor Abdur Rauf Talukder, Bangladesh Bank lent about 41 thousand crores to the government by hiding information in the last three months of the outgoing financial year. In the last financial year, the central bank has given huge amount of short term loans to various banks against repo, special repo.
The total amount of loan given to the government in the financial year 2023-24 was Tk 32 lakh 21 thousand crores. Which is more than the total loan disbursed in the last seven years. On the other hand, interest rates were also higher than at any time in recent times. Besides, the central bank has also earned a lot of money by selling foreign currency and lending to the government.
