National Fruit Fair Kicks Off in Dhaka with Ministry of Agriculture’s Initiative

Starting this Thursday, the three-day National Fruit Fair is underway at the Khamarbari in the capital city, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture. Themed “Nourishing Prosperity: Smart Agriculture in Bangladesh,” this fair will conclude on Saturday, June 8. The Ministry of Agriculture has released a press statement today with these details.

During this fruit fair, eight government institutions and fifty-five private organizations will participate. A total of sixty-three stalls will showcase various types of fruits and fruit cultivation technologies.

The fair will remain open daily from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM for everyone to explore. Visitors can learn about different fruit cultivation techniques and purchase chemically-free fruits of various varieties.

On Thursday morning at 9:00 AM, a colorful rally will march from Manik Mia Avenue to the Khamarbari premises. At 10:00 AM, the inauguration of the fair will take place at the Khamarbari courtyard, led by Dr. M. Abdur Shahid MP, the Minister of Agriculture.

Following that, a seminar on fruit production will be held at the Khamarbari auditorium. The event will be graced by the Minister of Agriculture as the chief guest and the Honorable State Minister of Commerce, Mr. Ahsanul Islam Titu MP, as the special guest.

On Saturday evening, the closing ceremony of the fruit fair will take place at the BARI auditorium. Dr. M. Abdur Rajjak MP, the former Minister of Agriculture and the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture, will be present as the chief guest.

According to the Department of Agricultural Extension, during the 2022-23 fiscal year, the country produced a total of 1 crore 50 lakh 33 thousand metric tons of fruits. Among these, mango production reached 27 lakh metric tons, litchi 2 lakh 30 thousand metric tons, jackfruit 18 lakh 24 thousand metric tons, and pineapple production amounted to 5 lakh 80 thousand metric tons.
