Despite the country producing approximately 60 million eggs daily, the demand remains unmet, stated Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhtar. Concerning nutritional security, she remarked, “At present, the average meat consumption per capita in the country is merely 200 grams. Numerous families still consume meat only once a week or even once a month.”
She made these comments as the chief guest during the inauguration of the newly built six-story academic building at Dhaka Central Girls’ High School on Saturday morning, along with the reception for the SSC-2025 toppers.
She added, “Bangladesh holds a relatively favorable position regarding fish production. Fish, meat, milk, and eggs serve as our nutritional sources. Thus, while focusing on students’ education, we must also consider the nutritional aspect.”
Advisor Farida Akhtar remarked, “Many young students and ordinary citizens sacrificed their lives during the mass uprising on July 24th. Numerous individuals lost limbs, eyesight, and became permanently disabled. In honor of their sacrifice, we must strive to create a Bangladesh where human rights are never compromised.”
She continued, “Begum Rokeya founded educational institutions for Muslim girls in a supportive environment, where various social and cultural activities were held alongside academic studies. It is insufficient to learn everything solely through reading, as history has often been misrepresented. Therefore, it is the duty of educators to enlighten students about their country and nation by providing authentic education.”
On the topic of female student safety, the advisor stated, “The district administration, police, and local political leaders must take responsibility for ensuring the safety of students both inside and outside the school. The interruption of girls’ education due to eve-teasing is unacceptable in the new Bangladesh.
Encouraging students to take action for environmental conservation, he stated, “At least one day each week, initiatives should be implemented in schools and communities to safeguard the environment. Additionally, the consumption of polythene and plastic must be minimized, as they pose significant risks to human health.”
Motivating female students to develop confidence and assertiveness, he remarked, “It is essential for us to understand the Violence Against Women Act, and it is crucial for teachers, guardians, and society to collaborate in order to combat child marriage.”
