In an operation conducted by the Coast Guard in Keraniganj, Dhaka, a substantial 4,900 kg of toxic jelly-pushed prawns were confiscated.
Lieutenant Commander Khandaker Munif Taqi, Media Officer of Coast Guard Headquarters, disclosed this information on Saturday.
The operation, executed on January 13, 2024, was initiated based on confidential information. In a collaborative effort between Bangladesh Coast Guard Station Pagla and the Directorate of Fisheries, Keraniganj, Dhaka, a special operation unfolded in the vicinity of the Dhaleswari Bridge Toll Plaza.
Two trucks destined for Chittagong from Satkhira underwent scrutiny during the operation, leading to the seizure of approximately 4,900 kg of poisonous jelly-pushed prawns.
As the legitimate owner remained elusive, the drivers of the two trucks were apprehended and subsequently released along with the vehicles.
Mohammad Ashiq, Assistant Fisheries Officer of Keraniganj Upazila, was present during the operation.
He said, the seized jelly-pushed prawns were methodically burned and destroyed, ensuring the removal of the hazardous contraband from circulation.
