Worker leaders to launch global campaign against buyers.

Garment worker leaders threatened to launch mass campaign globally against buyers if any of them cancel, suspend or claim discount on their order for Corona Virus pandemic.

They also expressed grave concern as local owners sacked over 10,000 workers across the city and its suburban areas during last couple of weeks.

“Buyers have talked long about their corporate social responsibility. If anyone shows hostility at this global disaster we shall launch campaign against them,  Alison Des Forges award winner worker leader Kalpona Akter told Business Mirror Monday.

Founder executive director of the Bangladesh Centre for Worker Solidarity (BCWS) Kalpona said we have global network and alignment with global human rights group.

She also said BCWS is working with International Finance Corporation (IFC) bringing buyers under a legal binding so that they could not violate international norms on workers rights.

Earlier last night in a joint statement issued by Bangladesh Garments and Industrial Workers Federation (BGIWF), Bangladesh Industrial Garments Union Federation (BIGUF) and Bangladesh Centre for Workers Solidarity (BCWS) expressed grave concern about the mass dismissal of workers.

The worker leaders demand immediate stoppage of such mass firing of labour from garment units and called government intervention in this regards.

They also call the garment owners who announced layoff their factories to pay wages to the workers as soon as possible.Garment
