Want to retain people’s trust and love: Ishraq Hossain*

“I am very grateful for the love and sincerity shown to me by people from all walks of life in the last elections of Dhaka South City Corporation. I want to keep the love and trust of the people by going door to door ignoring the oppression and oppression of the dictatorial Awami League government. Sitting in the chair as a mayor is not important to me, the biggest thing for me is to be able to work for the welfare of every people of Dhaka if given the opportunity.”

Engineer Ishrak Hossain said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the prayer and memorial meeting in the auditorium of the South City Corporation on the occasion of the fifth death anniversary of the former mayor and former minister of the undivided Dhaka City Corporation Sadek Hossain Khokar, organized by the Dhaka South City Corporation nationalist workers-employees union.

He said, “When my father was mayor, I never came to the city hall in my life. We come here, this my father would never indulge. Every day I learn new information about his life.”

Ishrak Hossain said, “I was a candidate of BNP in the mayoral election of Dhaka South City Corporation in 2020. You have seen how the autocratic murderous fascist Hasina government stole votes in the North and South City Corporation elections. They also looted the votes in the elections of South and North of Dhaka city. We filed a case challenging that selection, which is still ongoing. There was no opportunity to get a fair trial then, it is being made now.”

He also said, “Sitting on the chair as mayor is not very important to me. What matters to me is how people perceive me. The way people have responded to me is the biggest strength for my politics. I want to retain the trust and love of the people. I want to take Dhaka to a significant place among the livable cities of the world.”

Ishrak Hossain said, “Dhaka WASA has conveyed seven canals to City Corporation in the past few years. In the name of working on these canals, illegal ex-mayor Fazle Noor Tapas spent 300 crores with a budget of 900 crores. This money was of no use.”

Ishraq Hossain also said in the memorial meeting, “It will depend on the officers and employees of the City Corporation whether Dhaka city will come close to the developed cities of the world or not.” How livable the city of Dhaka is for common people depends on the officers and employees of the City Corporation. The city has to take a place of trust. I learned from my father that the biggest problem of the city was lack of coordination. More than 50 departments of seven ministries are associated with Dhaka City. And due to the lack of coordination between these departments, the city could not be brought to the desired place. If the BNP comes to power, the city corporation officials and employees have been subjected to discrimination, every incident will be tried. You will be assigned the position for which you are qualified. If our leader Desnayak Tariq Rahman comes to power, he will strengthen the local government and try to deliver all kinds of services to the people’s doorsteps.”

At this time, he expressed his gratitude to those concerned for organizing the memorial meeting.

Former Deputy Mayor of undivided Dhaka City Corporation Bir Muktijoddha Abdus Salam was the opening speaker at the prayer and memorial meeting, the main speaker was former General Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP and former Commissioner Kazi Abul Bashar. The program was presided over by Abu Zafar Mohammad Ilyas, president of Dhaka South City Corporation Nationalist Workers Union and moderated by Arifuzzaman Prince, general secretary.
