The army sees major reshuffle

NTMC chief Maj Gen Ziaul Ahsan relieved of service

MM Rahmatullah: Before the formation of the interim government, there was a major reshuffle in the Bangladesh Army. This was stated in a statement by the Public Relations Department (ISPR) of the three branches of the Bangladesh Armed Forces on Tuesday. With the approval of the President of Bangladesh, Mohammad Shahbuddin, the Chief of Army Staff General Waqar-uz-Zaman executed the reshuffle order.

Significantly, most of the removed and transferred officers are known to be ‘close’ to the new prime minister, Sheikh Hasina. Major General Ziaul Ahsan has been relieved from service, ISPR statement said. Incidentally, the agitating students and opposition leaders directly accused Major General Ziaul of supporting Hasina in phone hacking and assassination.
Apart from this, a number of high-ranking officers have also been removed from the direct control of the army and sent to less important posts. Lieutenant General Mohammad Saiful Alam has been removed from the army and sent to the Foreign Office! Another Lieutenant General Mohammad Mojibur Rahman has been sent to GOC Army Training and Doctrine Command.
Apart from this, Lt. Gen. Ahmad Tabrez Shams Chowdhury has been appointed as Quartermaster General of the Army, Lt. Gen. Mizanur Rahman Shamim as Chief of General Staff of the Army, Lt. Gen. Mohammad Shahinul Haque as Commandant NDC (National Defense College) and Major General ASM Rizwanur Rahman as NTMC (National Telecommunication Monitoring Center). has been appointed as director in the new guidelines.
