BTRC Chief Shyam elected as new Chairman of SATRC

The 24th Conference of the South Asian Telecommunication Regulatory Council (SATRC) has concluded in Dhaka. About 100 representatives of telecom and information technology regulatory bodies, telecom operators, officials of government and private organizations, and telecom and information technology-related experts from nine South Asian countries, including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, the Maldives, and Iran, participated in the conference.
BTRC Chief Shyam Sundar Sikder was elected as the new Chairman of the SATRC.
On Monday, the three-day conference was inaugurated by the Speaker of the National Assembly. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, MP.
Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Mustafa Jabbar addressed the closing ceremony.
He said mutual exchange of experience among SATRC member countries can contribute fruitfully to the region’s digital connectivity and digital technology development.
The minister expressed his deep gratitude to the member countries for electing Bangladesh as the chairman of the SATRC and said that building a highway of digital connectivity between South Asian countries like roads and railways will be an important task.
AAPT Secretary General Masanori Kondo also spoke on the occasion under the chairmanship of BTRC chief Shyam Sundar Sikdar, the newly elected chairman of the SATRC.
Shyam Sundar Sikder said that from the three-day conference of regulatory agencies from nine countries in South Asia, the advice of experts on strategies and action plans to face the challenges of the future will be very useful.
The conference is organized by BTRC and Asia-Pacific Telecommunication (APT) under the supervision of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications.
SATRC was established in 1997 as an amalgamation of telecommunications regulatory bodies in South Asia. The organization has been contributing fruitfully to BTRC’s capacity building for digital connectivity and technology development in the country through wireless wave harmonization, standardization, regulatory trends, telecommunication sector development strategies, regional cooperation, and international issues related to telecommunication.
