Faruk Ahmed, Magura: Locals hold a human chain demanding closure of Riga Low Company, a polluting ash factory in Nakol village of Sreepur upazila of Magura.
The human chain was held in front of the Magura Press Club on Thursday. More than a hundred local residents and students were present in the human chain.
The speakers in the hour-long human chain complained that the environment of the area is being severely polluted due to ash and smoke emitted from the factory. As a result, the risk of respiratory problems, asthma and other health problems for children and the elderly is increasing. In addition, agricultural land, trees and water bodies are also being polluted.
The speakers in the human chain also said that despite our long-standing demands, the administration has not yet taken any effective action. We want urgent steps to close this factory to protect our environment and future.
The locals urged the administration to take immediate steps to resolve the issue and warned that if their demands are not met, they will embark on a more stringent movement.
