Flood-affected students get scholarship money in Sherpur

  • Desk Report: Scholarship money has been distributed among meritorious students affected by the flood in Nakla upazila under Sherpur district. This scholarship money was distributed to the students at the Biharirpar SEDP Model High School ground in the upazila on Saturday, associated by Dhaka University Friends Forum (DUFF) and the Local Broadband Network Owners Association, Bangladesh (LBNOA).

Sherpur District Secondary Education Officer Md. Rezuan presided over the program organized to distribute the scholarship money.

Mymensingh Education Board School Inspector Didarul Islam, Deputy Secretary Mashiul Alam, DUFF President Iqbal Mahmud, Vice President Md. Golam Rabbani, LBNOA President Fuad Mohammad Sharaf Uddin, General Secretary Humayun Ahmed, and the school’s headmaster Md. Faridul Islam spoke at the program. 200 students of SEDP Model High School and Pichlakuri Lower Secondary School of the upazila were distributed 2000 taka as scholarships during the time.

DUFF President Mohammad Iqbal Mahmud said at the event, “Half of the country has been affected by the terrible floods during the current monsoon season. Among the people affected by the floods, there are a large number of ordinary school students. Therefore, it is necessary not only to distribute relief during the flood, but also to rehabilitate the students in the post-flood period. This disrupts their studies. Therefore, we are standing by the students so that the students do not get disappointed due to financial difficulties. Through this, the students will benefit at least to some extent. We hope that these students from rural areas will develop into enlightened people in the future and devote themselves to serving the people of this country.”

Md. Ibrahim and Rimi Akhter, student of class IX of Biharirpar SEDP Model High School, were very happy to receive the scholarship money. They said that during the terrible flood, their house was flooded along with their valuable assets, including their textbooks and notebooks were destroyed. So they will use the scholarship money to buy educational materials.
