Mahbubul Alam, president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), has expressed his grief over the terrible fire in the sugar factory of S Alam Group in Karnaphuli, Chittagong.
In a press release, he commented that such an accident is a very unexpected and unforeseen accident.
FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam said that sugar is one of our daily essential products. The holy month of Ramadan drives up demand for sugar. We are therefore profoundly saddened by the sugar refinery fire event.
However, as a result of this fire, the FBCCI president expressed hope that there will not be a shortage of sugar in the country’s market in the coming Ramadan.
Mahbubul Alam said, we organized a meeting about the supply of daily commodities in the upcoming month of Ramadan. Traders of this sector said that there is sufficient stock of sugar in the country.
Meanwhile, FBCCI president urged retail traders, wholesale traders, importers, traders and mill owners to be more active to keep the market of all types of daily necessities stable during the month of Ramadan.
The head of S Alam Group, Saiful Alam Masood, received a phone call from the FBCCI President expressing his sympathies for the fire disaster. Then, Mr. S. Alam voiced hope that his business would quickly bounce back from this setback and carry on contributing significantly to the upkeep of the regular sugar supply chain.
Notably, on Monday afternoon, a fire started in the S Alam Sugar Refinery, a sugar mill located in the Karnaphuli neighborhood of Chittagong.
