DU Correspondent: The University of Dhaka (DU) administration has announced that female students who are eligible for dormitory seats but unable to secure one due to a seat shortage will receive temporary accommodation support. Each student under this initiative will receive Tk 3,000 per month.
This announcement was made on at a press conference held at the Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom of the university.
Present at the press conference were DU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha, Treasurer Professor Dr. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed, and provosts of female dormitories.
Professor Dr. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, DU Treasurer, stated, “We are unable to resolve the accommodation issue for our female students quickly, but we are trying to provide a temporary solution through this initiative. Additionally, we will collect funds outside the budget to support student accommodation.”
He further added, “Eligible students who cannot be provided with a seat due to the shortage will be given Tk 3,000 per month as accommodation support. Work on this initiative has already begun. The dormitories have been asked to gather information about students who require seats. Once this is received, we will verify and begin the allocation.”
Earlier, a group of female students had announced a protest program titled “Shelter at the VC’s Residence,” demanding immediate temporary accommodation for women students at DU.
