DU Correspondent: In a historic move, the University of Dhaka (DU) has introduced a shuttle bus service on its campus for the first time ever. The service was officially inaugurated on Thursday, November 28, in front of the Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Nayaz Ahmed Khan.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor described the initiative as a “small but positive step,” acknowledging the university’s limited resources. “Given our constraints, this is the best we could offer. The service will cost approximately 9,000 taka daily, but together, we are embarking on this journey. We seek the cooperation of everyone,” he said.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Syma Haque Bidisha also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the administration’s ongoing efforts to meet students’ demands despite various limitations. “We are committed to fulfilling the students’ needs, and we plan to continue with such initiatives in the future,” she stated.
The introduction of the shuttle service has been met with enthusiasm from the university’s students, who have expressed their appreciation for the much-needed transportation option on campus.
The event was also attended by Proctor Dr. Saifuddin Ahmed Khan, Registrar Munshi Shamsuddin Ahmed, and Chairman of the Provost Standing Committee, Professor Dr. Abdullah Al Mamun, among others.
The shuttle service will be operational on a trial basis for the next three months. It will feature three non-AC minibuses operating in a circular route across the campus from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM daily.
