BTRC to reduce mobile internet package quantity

BM Report

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is going to reduce mobile internet packages. And there will be no internet package for less than 7 days starting October 15.

Mobile phone operators offer a maximum of 95 packages, as BTRC previously fixed the quantity in a guideline in 2022. There are packages for 3, 7, 15, and 30 days.

In the new guidelines, the package quantity would be a maximum of 40 and the validity would be 7 days, 30 days, and unlimited.

According to BTRC officials, out of these 40, customers will be able to make their own packages of their choice through mobile phone operators’ different apps.

“The new instructions have been given considering the needs and interests of the customers. Besides, there is no opportunity to increase the price, said BTRC Chairman Shyam Sundar Sikder.

A senior officer of BTRC said, We have decided to reduce the number of packages in the interest of the customer. A letter has already been given to mobile phone operators in this regard. This new rule will be implemented on October 15.

Before that, BTRC will hold a meeting with mobile phone operators and related parties.
