Bangladesh Railway (BR) has reduced its freight fare by 25 percent and withdrawn charges on agricultural goods, milk, eggs and vegetables produced by marginal farmers in this coronavirus pandemic crisis.
The adjusted fares will come into effect from May 19 this year, a railway release said.To this end, the railway issued a directive on Monday.
The press release said the adjustment to fares of parcel trains will facilitate supply of agricultural products to markets.
It will also play a role to increase the railway’s revenue collection alongside strengthening the rural economy, it added.
Apart from freight trains, the special parcel trains are running on different routes to ensure a smooth supply of agricultural products, vegetables and perishable goods as per the government’s directive to stem the spread of Covid-19.
