Tangail, Correspondent: Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie MP has announced that constructio of a permanent embankment will begin soon to address severe erosion along the Jamuna River in Tangail Sadar upazila.
The announcement came after the minister visited erosion-hit areas in Kakua Union, including Char Pouli, on Friday at around 12 noon. He was accompanied by State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultana Salahuddin Tuku, who also serves as the local Member of Parliament. Following the inspection, the ministers joined an exchange meeting with affected residents at Mintu Memorial High School field beside the riverbank. Speaking as the chief speaker at the event, State Minister Tuku said the government is working to implement its election promise of constructing a permanent embankment to protect people from Jamuna river erosion, adding, “We do what we say.” Several senior officials were present during the visit, including Tangail Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar, and Chief Engineer of the Bangladesh Water Development Board’s Central Zone Md Shahjahan Siraj, along with other local administration officials. Also in attendance were political leaders from the opposition, including Tangail District BNP President Hasanuzzaman Shahin, former member secretary Mahmudul Haque Sanu, Sadar Upazila BNP President Azgar Ali, and former leaders of district Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal,
